Consultation on proportionate inspection system launched
16 Mar 2006
Today’s consultation builds on the achievements of the new-style school inspections introduced in September 2005. It sets out proposals for reducing further the burden of inspection on schools that are achieving very well and for increased monitoring of schools where there is underachievement.
The consultation is seeking views on higher achieving schools receiving an even ‘lighter touch’ inspection. Ofsted plans to undertake shorter, more focused inspections in some, but not all, higher-achieving schools which are due for inspection. This would involve an even more focused look at the quality of the school’s self-evaluation and the tailoring of the inspection accordingly.
At the other end of the scale, schools given a notice to improve, and some satisfactory schools that may be underachieving, will receive extra monitoring visits and advice to support improvement.
Ofsted is already trialling this next step and would like to hear your views.
